Russian Trigger was put down today (Saturday 5th December) at Sandown after breaking a fetlock just before the Pond Fence. Bred at East Burrow and by Double Trigger, he flew the flag by winning the Kent Grand National and the Midlands National in the Spring. Our thoughts are with all the connections and to Victor Dartnall and his team who trained him in North Devon.
Penzena winning for Tobougg and Andrew Balding, followed up the success of Triggerman, trained by Phillip Hobbs, winning at Wincanton for Double Trigger on Thurdsay 19th November giving the stallions standing at East Burrow a double on the day.
Tobougg is responsible for The Betchworth Kid who started his career over hurdles with a win at Plumpton on Monday. The listed proformer on the flat looks a promising recrut to hurdles.
Circumvent went on to win the Prix Thomas Bryon Group 3 in France for trainer Paul Cole. The chesnut two year old makes it three from four starts and is sure to improve again.
Brian Smart was responsible for sending out Distinctive to win the 14 runner Group 3 at Ayre on 19th September. The two year old won well to bring her tally to two wins from three runs. Another Tobougg filly trained by R Fahey made it a double on the same card.
Lady Alida followed up her Listed win by also winning the Gr.3 Premio Mario Incisa Della Rochetta at San Siro on Saturday 20th June over 2000m. She drew clear in the closing stages to win comfortably. Tobougg continues to produce stakes winners after Penny's Gift won the German 1000 guineas.
After finishing 6th in the English 1,000, Penny's Gift went on to win the German equivalent under Richerd Hughes for Richard Hannon. Bred by Capt. Smith Maxwell, the filly stayed on well to win from the late challenge of Fabiana.
Double Trigger was also responsible for siring the winner of the bumper at Hexham in Malakai who is trained by Howard Johnson for the Graham and Andrea Wylie. Faltering Fullback won in Ireland to make it a double.
Faltering Fullback gave Double Trigger another winner when winning well at Limerick on Sunday 5th April. After a rough race at Cheltenham when he did not get the run of the race, Faltering Fullback had a much easier task today and was not needed to be asked any serious questions.
Bouggler, who is trained by Emma Lavelle, won the John Smith's Mersey Novices Hurdle at Aintree on Saturday. He was the least experienced of the 17 runners but showed great courage by winning this good quality race. This has supplied Tobougg with his first Graded winner over hurdles and Bouggler looks a great prospect for the future as he is only four years old.
Ikorodu Road won the maiden hurdle at Southwell on his third run over hurdles after being beaten a head first time out and running a good third the next.
Victor Dartnall trained Russian Trigger to win his second staying race in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter on Saturday 14th March. He was ridden by Jack Doyle. Russian Trigger is the first stakes race winner over fences for his sire Double Trigger out of a Bustino mare, Cobusino.
Bouggler ran really well to win the novice hurdle at Kempton on Saturday 28th February beating three more fancied rivals impressively. He is trained by Emma Lavelle and this is his first outing over hurdles. He looks to be an exciting prospect but does not have any major entries at this stage.
Russian Trigger won the Class 3 Kent National under a great ride from Christian Williams on Wednesday 25th February. Only his third time over the larger obsticles Russian Trigger stayed on well to win. Already a winner of three hurdle races, he was bred at East Burrow Farm.
East Burrow Farm was established as a Thoroughbred Stud some 20 years ago alongside a commercial farming enterprise. The farm became solely dedicated to horses in 1999 when Double Trigger arrived here to commence stud duties.
Before the arrival of Double Trigger the stallions Out of Hand, Jester and Opera Ghost all stood here and alongside Double Trigger the stallions Gorse, Systematic and for one season, on behalf of Darley, Bests of the Bests stood here. Although the form is entirely geared towards the production of Thoroughbred horses, a small herd of North Devon cattle graze the paddocks and our own hay and haylage is produced.
